When I first heard that Politico was making a fuss about a comment Rick Santorum made about Palin, I thought this was more manufactured Palin controversies from Politco. Then I read and saw what Santorum said and in the words of Palin I had a WTF moment.
Politico: “I have a feeling that she has some demands on her time, and a lot of them have financial benefit attached to them,” Santorum told conservative commentator S.E. Cupp, who hosts an online radio show on Glenn Beck’s website.
Santorum added that Palin has “other business opportunities” — implying her paid speeches were the former Alaska governor’s priority.
The former Alaska governor has become a money-making machine since 2008, with her annual income estimated as high as $30 million.
Santorum — the father of seven children — also said that Palin has “other responsibilities,” such as raising her children, that he doesn’t.
“I don’t live in Alaska and I’m not the mother to all these kids and I don’t have other responsibilities that she has,” he said.
What is the point of talking about "financial benefit" unless you want to make an issue of it. If Santorum wanted to say Palin is busy, then there is just no need to add all that stuff about "financial benefit".
Santorum's quip about Palin being busy and raising kids pretty much outs his remarks as an attack. The man has seven kids himself so why on earth should Palin's five be an issue?
Some people are saying if you watch the video, Santorum's words are much kinder. OK, lets watch.
Nope, those remarks are still pretty funky. Santorum is obviously trying to elevate his chances by stepping on Sarah's toes. And you know what that is fine. Politics is a rough and tumble business. The general election is going to be exceptionally rough and tumble. So whomever the GOP candidate is had better have cojones of steel.
Santorum fails the cojones test, because once the mess hits the fan, Santorum back peddles on his words with this tweet.
Politico: “This article is garbage,” Santorum tweeted this morning, linking to the POLITICO story. “All I said was- she is VERY busy, PERIOD. Reporter trying to create something out of nothing.
Come on Rick, man up. You said a whole lot more than she was "very busy". If you want to go toe to toe with Obama in 2012, you had better be man enough to stand up to Palin. Otherwise, Palin will walk all over you like you like a bear skin rug. Tonight on Hannity, Palin did exactly that:
The Right Scoop: “I think the reports were much worse than what he really said. I think some things were really taken out of context. So I will not call him the knuckle dragging Neanderthal that perhaps others would want to call him. I’ll let his wife call him that instead.” [See video here]
Anyone want to bet that Palin doesn't tweet an apology either?
I really hope Palin runs, just so that I can watch her beat down some of these effete Republican males.
