Japan: Grace under fire

Watching the events unfold in Japan over the last few days has been like watching one of those over the top Hollywood disaster flicks.  An earthquake, a tsunami, an out of control nuclear reactor, constant tremors, a volcano and now nuclear snow, all seems like the stuff over zealous story writers cram into a single movie. Yet these things are really happening.

Despite this week from hell, the composure of the Japanese is beyond belief. Here in America the freak out session would have long begun. Heck, our own Surgeon General is telling people to buy iodine for the fallout from Japan's reactors even though the reactors are over 5,000 miles away!

We could all take a lesson from Japan. The Japanese people aren't even looting and the bravery of the 50 workers sticking it out at Fukushima is beyond impressive.

As America steers in the face of economic collapse with high unemployment, rising food and gas prices, unsustainable debt and a completely ineffective spendthrift Federal government, I pray our better angels emerge, like Japan,  when our crisis time finally comes.
