Quinnipiac: Obama at lowest approval and reelect scores ever

Obama has hit new lows in the Quinnipiac poll. Forty eight percent of voters disapprove of Obama's job performance and 50% say Obama does not deserve to be reelected.

Quinnipiac: American voters disapprove 48 - 42 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing and say 50 - 41 percent he does not deserve to be re-elected in 2012, both all-time lows, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 46 - 46 percent job approval rating and a 45 - 47 percent split on the President's re-election in a March 3 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. In a hypothetical 2012 matchup, President Obama gets 36 percent of the vote to 37 percent for an unnamed Republican challenger.

Democrats approve 80 - 13 percent of the job Obama is doing, but disapproval is 81 - 9 percent among Republicans and 50 - 39 percent among independent voters. Men disapprove 52 - 41 percent while women split 44 - 44 percent.

Voters oppose 47 - 41 percent America's involvement in Libya. In the survey concluded Monday evening as President Obama was addressing the nation about Libya, voters say 58 - 29 percent that he has not clearly stated U.S. goals for Libya. [MORE]

I would like to use this poll to point out something to some conservatives who fret over Obama not being beatable in 2012.  Obama's approval numbers, like every president, are directly tied to events the nation faces.  Depending on how he handles these events his approval will either climb or crash.  In this case his handling of Libya is pulling him down.  Thus, as we see polls today showing Obama beating possible Republican rivals, we have no idea how events in the future will affect Obama's poll numbers.  

Republican challengers do not face the same consequences because they only have to speak in the hypothetical about how may handle a given crisis. The even have the luxury of waiting until Obama acts first. So to those worry warts out there, calm down until 2012.

Bye-bye bounce: Rassmussen 40% strongly disapprove of Obama

Rasmussen Reports: The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 23% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -17 (see trends). [MORE]

Since passing legislation to allow the current tax rates to remain the same, Obama had enjoyed elevated approval ratings.  It appears that when Obama abandons his leftist ways and pursues centrist or conservative policies, his numbers improve.  If he gets this message, he might be able to dig himself up enough votes next year to get reelected.   Something to watch for over the next couple of months.


 Rasmussen notes that the decline coincides with events unfolding in Egypt.  I would say Obama's WTF State of the Union address probably had something to do with it too. All that "investment" talk did not really fool anybody.

McClatchy – Marist Poll: Obama hits new low

McClatchy: WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama's approval ratings have sunk to the lowest level of his presidency, so low that he'd lose the White House to Republican Mitt Romney if the election were held today, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.

The biggest reason for Obama's fall: a sharp drop in approval among Democrats and liberals, apparently unhappy with his moves toward the center since he led the party to landslide losses in November's midterm elections. At the same time, he's gained nothing among independents.[…]

Overall, just 42 percent of registered voters approve of how he's doing his job, while 50 percent disapprove.

Obama's standing among Democrats dropped from a month ago, with his approval rating falling to 74 percent from 83 percent, and his disapproval rating almost doubling, from 11 percent to 21 percent.

Among liberals, his approval rating dropped from 78 percent to 69 percent and his disapproval rating jumped from 14 percent to 22 percent.

His position among independents remained virtually the same, with 39 percent approving and 52 percent disapproving. A month ago, it was 38-54.

The president's continued failure to rally independents could ruin his bid for re-election. A hypothetical 2012 matchup showed him getting the support of 44 percent of registered voters and Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, getting 46 percent.

I would not jump for glee over this poll.  Yes, the left is quite angry at Obama today, but the very same people who are wetting the bed over maintaining the tax rates for the wealthy, will be flocking to the polls in 2012 to make sure those tax rates do not become permanent under a Republican president.

I also severely doubt Romney can beat Obama.  Whoever wins the Republican nomination is going to get exactly what Sarah Palin has gotten over the last two years.  I just don’t see Mitt Romney being capable of withstanding that kind of assault. Check out this video as an example.  I think this is why the very left leaning McClatchy decided to highlight Romney beating Obama.

Zogby: Obama hits new low, now at 39%

Zogby: UTICA, New York - President Barack Obama's job approval rating has dropped to the lowest point of his Presidency at 39%, and in potential match-ups with Republicans in 2012, he trails Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich and is just one point ahead of Sarah Palin.

The percentage of likely voters saying the U.S. is on the wrong track is now the highest since Obama took office at 69%.

The President continues to lose the job approval of Democrats, going from 78% on Nov. 15 to 72% in this Nov. 19-22, 2010 interactive poll. His approval among independents stayed at 39%, and is 6% among Republicans.

Good news if true, but I am going to wait and see what both Rasmussen and Gallup have to say.

Since the elections, Obama hasn’t really shown any course corrections or even a basic understanding of the message that was sent. Perhaps these numbers reflect people realizing that nothing may change after the election. Time will tell.

Gallup: Only blacks still believe in Obama?

Gallup’s latest poll out today shows that among blacks Obama has a high approval rating:

LA Times: The good news for President Obama is his popular support among blacks is holding steady at 91%.

The bad news is no other group of potential voters likes him that much.[...]

Democrats (79%) and liberals (75%) still like Obama a lot.

But after that, his approval percentage goes to the deep south. Support among even young people is down: 57%. Hispanics: 55%. Moderates: 54%. Unmarrieds: 53%. Easterners: 52%. Women: 47%. Midwesterners and Westerners: 45%.

Men: 43%. Southerners: 41%. Independents: 40%. Marrieds: 39%. Seniors: 38%. Whites: 36%. Conservatives: 23%.

Does this mean that blacks are still susceptible to the Hope and Change Kool Aid?  I don’t think so.  Blacks are not falling for the Kool Aid any more than whites or other minorities.  Whenever I discuss politics with other blacks, they complain about the exact same things everyone else does (jobs, Washington’s spending spree, the economy, etc).

What I think is going on with these numbers is racial pride or racial solidarity. Many blacks voted for Obama simply because he was black. So many blacks I know who voted for Obama could not tell you anything substantial about the policies Obama was pushing. Instead they often gave assertions about “it was time for a change”. Because so many of their votes were based on racial pride and solidarity, they do not want to Obama fail. They will stick with Obama no matter how bad his policies are for the nation or the black community itself.

I feel a little sorry for these brothers and sisters.  They allowed themselves to get swept up in the dream of electing the first black president. Throughout all the excitement, they neglected to make sure Obama was truly the right man for the job.
