Well so much for a health care bounce in the polls. CNN has just released a new poll and it’s not so good news for Obama:
Washington (CNN) – The public is split right down the middle on whether President Barack Obama should be re-elected and a majority of Americans predict he will be a one-term president, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Thursday indicates that if the 2012 presidential election were held today, 47 percent of registered voters would back Obama, with an equal amount supporting an unnamed Republican challenger. Fifty-four percent of people questioned say Obama will lose if he runs for re-election in 2012, with 44 percent saying the president would win a second term.
A few quick notes about the numbers, CNN used slightly more Republicans and Republican leaning independents than Democrats and Democrat leaning independents (531 vs. 448). Also on the question of would Obama lose re-election, only 2% did not have an opinion. The poll also lists the leading GOP contenders. Romney came in at 22%, Palin at 18% and Huckabee at 17%. It will be interesting to see if Romney can keep those numbers now that ObamaCare is law.
While it is encouraging to see these numbers, keep in mind we have over 2 years before 2012. Anything can happen in that time to turn things around. Especially is Obama is kept in check by a GOP congress, people might grow to like Obama again. I doubt it, but hey you never know.
