Truth transforms us

In his book Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week: From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection, commenting on 1 Timothy 1:13, where St. Paul writes that he was "a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent" of God and the church, going on to write that he "received mercy because [he] had acted ignorantly in unbelief," the Holy Father writes, referring to Paul's studying "under the best masters" to the point he could certainly be considered an expert in the Scriptures, "This combination of expert knowledge and deep ignorance certainly causes us to ponder." Pondering this "reveals the whole problem of knowledge that remains self-sufficient and so does not arrive at the Truth itself, which ought to transform man." (pg. 207)
